Two of my Favourites! Very sad that it’s being discontinued, so I Just brewed a batch last night of something close to a Sgt. Major IPA. Hopefully I’ll be able to refine the recipe to always have something close on hand. and Hoptical Illusion, what can I say besides amazing. Going for a visit up to the brewery in a few weeks, should be interesting with those guys! I’ll post on both of those soon, if you’re interested…
Cheers!
Hey Matt, Thanks for the suggestions. I have had both…just not reviewed them… I am a bit of a hop head so the Sgt. Major is right up my alley.
Funny story. My buddy and I have both had 6 packs of the hoptical Illusion. We both had the same thing happen. We had a few and there was no real hop taste….then bam the rest of the bottles had tons of hops…
They seem to have a issue with consistency so far. I really liked the ones that had the hops
We were fortunate enough to visit the Flying Monkey last summer, just before they managed to release their Hoptical Illusion. They were still jumping through hoops with the LCBO to get their artwork and name approved, and to complete all the other paperwork required.
The tank Peter (owner and head brewer) poured us a sample jug from was probably the first or second destined for the LCBO.
It was wonderful, if only it could always be drunk that way, standing in the middle of the brewhouse pulling a jug directly from the tank and passing it around.
It’s how beer should be drunk.

2 suggestions:
Hoptical Illusion: Flying Monkeys brewery
Sgt. Major: Scotch Irish Brewing
Both excellent, with the Major being a very hoppy IPA…a little too hoppy for me
